This is a new silver coin issued by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and dedicated to the Artek International Children Centre. The coin is struck from 1 oz silver .925 in proof quality with the worldwide mintage limited to 1 000 pieces.
The obverse of the coin represents the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are also the following inscriptions: the face value of the coin, its weight, and metal fineness, issuing country, and year.
The reverse features the colored image of the Artek emblem, a panoramic view of the sea coast with buildings along with it, and Ayu-Dagh Mountain in the background. Established on June 16, 1925, Artek is an international children center (a former Young Pioneer camp) on the Black Sea in the town of Hurzuf located on the Crimean peninsula, near Ayu-Dag. Over two million children from different countries of the world have visited it during this time. In 2000 in Tokyo International Children Center Artek was named the best children's center among 100 000 children's camps in 50 countries. In 2006 Center Artek was given the status of a center under the auspices of UNESCO for its contribution to the development of intercultural relations and strengthening the friendship of children from around International Children.
